Checklist

To-do list

Before arriving in Germany, you must do the following:
  • Apply for a visa, if necessary
  • Set up a blocked account (Sperrkonto) to prove your financial stability, if necessary
You should also contact the THU International Office well in advance. They will give you information about orientation events and our buddy program. As well as helping you meet people and to get settled in, these offers also support you in the completion of important formalities.

This means you won't have to do the following things on your own after your arrival:

  1. Register with the city administration (Bürgerservice) within the first 14 days of arrival
  2. Apply for a residence permit, if necessary
  3. Open a German bank account, if necessary
Further information on these topics can be found under “Authorities” and “Finances”.

The International Office will also provide you with important information about the formalities you must complete at the start of your studies in Ulm/Neu-Ulm. You can also get valuable tips about living and studying in Ulm/Neu-Ulm to help you feel at home quickly. So make sure you take advantage of as many of THU's information and orientation services as possible!
