Advice and support for students

​​Studying, everyday life and personal challenges sometimes raise questions. There are numerous professional advice centers at THU and in Ulm to help you.

THU Advice Centers

Student Advisory Service

The student advisory service at your university will help you wit​h your initial questions about studying. Here you can find out about application procedures, admission, and study options. Dr. Matthias Klepsch is available to you as a student advisor. You can find him in Room A208 (Prittwitzstrasse 10) or contact him by e-mail at studienberatung@thu.de. International Office

The International Office is the central point of contact for degree-seeking students and exchange students. All further information can be found on the website.

Department for Equal Opportunities (Referat für Gleichstellung)

The Referat für Gleichstellung at THU is responsible for all matters relating to equal opportunities. This is your contact for questions on how to deal with discrimination, sexual harassment, and violence – and to find out about counseling options. The discussions are confidential.

Advice centers: student groups

Verfasste Studierendenschaft (Students' Council)

The Verfasste Studierendenschaft (VS) (only in German) forms the "student government" of a university and represents students' interests. Its responsibilities include organizing events, advising on student finance, and participating in university committees. Students – whether German or international students – are welcomed to help represent all students' interests, and help keep our services running. If you are interested, contact your VS directly.

  • ASSIST: Active Partnership and Support of Senior Consultants for International Students
  • ESG and KSG (only in German): Protestant (ESG) and Catholic (KSG) student community
  • EUF​: German and international students form the Erasmus Ulm + Friends group. This group organizes events for exchange and other interested students (in English only)
  • Jmd4you​: Youth Migration Services (JMD) online advice service, providing individual advice on educational, professional, and social integration in Germany

Studierendenwerk Ulm (Ulm Students’ Union)

Studierendenwerk Ulm​ is responsible for supporting and promoting students in Ulm to help them to study successfully. It supports all students at Ulm University of Applied Sciences.

The Studierendenwerk is your contact for:

  • Accommodation

Psychosocial Counseling Center (PBS) of the Studierendenwerk Ulm 

The Psychosocial Counseling Center (PBS) of the Studierendenwerk Ulm offers support to students of the University of Ulm and other participating​ universities (Aalen, Biberach, Heidenheim, Schwäbisch Gmünd and Ulm).

​Services offered:
  • Individual counseling: Free, confidential counseling (German/English) for psychosocial problems such as learning difficulties, exam anxiety or personal concerns. Short-term appointments are possible in urgent cases.
  • Courses: The PBS courses help​ personal skills and are tailored to student needs. Participation fee: € 10.00

Legal advice from the Studierendenwerk​

Advice on all legal situations related to studying (e.g. university, funding and tenancy law). 

​Queer Referat der Uni Ulm (only in German)​​

Contact and information for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, transgender and intersex people as well as those who do not wish to be categorized by a particular sexual or gender identity.

Women's advice center and women's shelter in Ulm

The public advice center for women who have experienced violence: offering advice and support – anonymously, in person, or by telephone – as well as assistance in finding doctors, therapists, lawyers, clinics, and other forms of help. The helpline - violence against women

The helpline is a nationwide advice service for women who have experienced or are still experiencing violence. Relatives, friends, and professionals can also receive anonymous advice free of charge.
