More women than founders

THU has set itself the goal of promoting start-ups and, in particular, more women in start-ups and has been successful for several years with its applications to the EXIST Women funding programof the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE).

With various events, advice and support services as well as a financial grant, the aim is to sensitize and motivate female students, graduates, scientists and women with professional qualifications and a connection to the university to the topic of start-ups. Interested women can now contact the THU Startup Center for further information.

Why take part?

  • Professional development of your idea: Structured work on your business idea including the creation of a business plan
  • Present yourself confidently: Receive comprehensive pitch training and learn how to present your idea convincingly
  • 3-month scholarship and/or € 2,000 lump sum for materials as financial support are possible so that you can concentrate on preparing for your start-up
  • Individual support throughout the year from experienced start-up coaches and a personal mentor
  • Workshops & training on time management, leadership and other start-up-related topics, among others
  • Valuable network for exchanging ideas with female founders and women interested in starting a business from various specialist areas

Requirements

You have a connection to THU—for example, as a student or graduate—or you live in Ulm and can participate in our program activities on-site. Having an initial startup idea is desirable, but not required.

The new application period begins in December 2026. The application deadline is January 31, 2027. The program is contingent upon funding from the THU through the EXIST Women 2027 initiative. We expect to learn by the end of January 2027 whether the THU will receive funding again. If funding is approved, the selection interviews will take place in February 2027.
