On the Master’s programme in Medical Technology, ‘Medical Devices – Research and Development’, you will work in a team to develop technical solutions to medical problems within our research areas of Technical Orthopaedics, Implant Technology, Rehabilitation Technology, Biological Safety and Artificial Intelligence. The projects are developed in close collaboration with clinical and industrial partners from our Ulm MedTech Cluster. At the end of the two-semester project, you can present your findings at specialist symposia or publish them scientifically together with your team – thereby creating the ideal conditions for a career in research and industry.
In addition, you can apply for funding through the Ulm MedTech Scholarship and gain practical insights into the corporate network of the Ulm MedTech Cluster.
Qualify for a PhD following your Master’s degree – the research-focused professors at our faculty are authorised to supervise PhD students through the Baden-Württemberg Doctoral Association.

The medical technology course lasts three semesters and covers content from the areas of regulatory affairs, software for medical devices, virtual lab, simulation and scientific work as well as management.
Individual specialization: Compulsory elective modules and the engineering research project allow you to specialize individually. You also choose courses to expand your technical expertise and develop management skills for leading complex projects.
Individual supervision: You will work in focus groups and receive support from our professors with a strong research background
Up-to-date: Modern laboratories are available for your work: 3D motion capturing and ground reaction force measurement in the motion analysis laboratory, static and dynamic implant testing including optical deformation measurement in the medical device testing laboratory and prototype production in the 3D printing laboratory.
Flexible study models: The Master's degree is flexible and can also be completed part-time so that you can adapt your studies to your life plans.
Dual study: Study the Master's degree full-time in conjunction with a contractually agreed, in-depth practical placement at one of our medical technology partner companies in the Ulm area
Funding: Apply for the Ulm MedTech scholarship and network with our companies in the Ulm MedTech cluster
Doctorate: We are one of the strongest research faculties at THU and offer doctoral opportunities in the fields of orthopaedics, implant technology, rehabilitation technology, biological safety and artificial intelligence
