Get started now and shape your future in technology!

Gender should not actually play a role in the choice of degree course. However, the reality is still different at the moment: In STEM subjects (math, computer science, natural sciences and technology), men are still clearly in the majority. In order to close this gap and create real equal opportunities, we offer targeted (support) programs. We want to break down barriers and get everyone, regardless of gender, excited about technology.

Many young women decide against studying technology because they have no female role models or lack the network. One thing is clear: it's not down to your abilities! Studies show: Women have what it takes just as much as men.

That's why we offer you the framework you need to get started:

  • Networking: Make contacts with other female students and get to know experienced female engineers from the field.
  • Exchange: Talk about technical topics and share your personal experiences in a safe space.
  • Support: You benefit from all the equal opportunities measures at our university.

Of course, you can always apply in theory. But to put it bluntly: unfortunately, we cannot offer you a place in the orientation semester.

Why is that?

The TECHNIK +O orientation semester is a special support program aimed exclusively at women and intersex, non-binary, transgender and agender people.

Even if the orientation semester is not open to you: You can of course enroll in any regular degree program at THU! We have lots of exciting engineering bachelor's programs that could be just right for you.

Yes, you can apply for recognition for all the ECTS you receive during the orientation semester, regardless of whether you stay at THU or transfer to another university. This means that you can avoid extending the standard period of study.

No. You can apply to any other university afterwards, but we would of course be delighted if you stay and continue to use the women's network you have created through Technik +O during your studies.

Unfortunately, we are not yet able to provide any information on this.

Yes, during the orientation semester you have student status because you are enrolled (matriculated) at the university. This means that you are legally considered a student at the university, even if you are not yet assigned to a regular degree program.

The admission requirements for the orientation semester are identical to those for enrolment in a regular Bachelor's degree course. This means that you need a university entrance qualification.

You enroll for the summer semester in the degree program of your choice at THU (or at another university).

No, the orientation semester for women is currently only offered for Bachelor's degree programs.

The Technology +O orientation semester is funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space as part of the Female Professors Program.
