Digital Media study contents

The Digital Media degree course lasts seven semesters. In the foundation course, which comprises the first two semesters, you will learn the basics of design, media technology and programming. In the main course in semesters 3, 4 and 6, you will deepen your knowledge in the areas of publication, production and interactive systems. The program is supplemented by courses on programming web applications and virtual spaces.

In the practical semester, which takes place in the 5th semester, you will work on real media projects in graphic and design offices, audio and video studios or internet agencies. This allows you to gain valuable practical experience and make your first contacts in the industry.

After seven semesters, you will complete your studies with an application-oriented Bachelor's thesis. Upon successful completion of your studies, you will be awarded the academic degree Bachelor of Arts.

Requirements for a Digital Media Bachelor's degree program

You will need a higher education entrance qualification for your studies, for example the general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur), the subject-specific higher education entrance qualification, the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences or a comparable qualification. In addition, successful participation in the aptitude assessment procedure (EFV) is mandatory. As part of this process, you will demonstrate your design and technical/informational skills in a written examination. You should also have an interest in design, digital media and technical contexts. Creativity, teamwork and communication skills are also important, as many practical projects and interdisciplinary tasks await you during your studies. A pre-study internship is recommended, but is not mandatory for admission to the Digital Media course.

Conclusion & prospects

Your career paths are as varied as the course itself: You will later work in conception, design, technical implementation or directly take on project management. Doors are open to you in internet, online and advertising agencies as well as in classic graphic design or computer animation. Your skills are also in demand in audio, film and video production, in publishing or in editorial offices. If you are more interested in working in business or the public sector, IT departments in medium-sized and large companies as well as cultural institutions such as museums offer you excellent prospects.
