Computer science - Ulm model
The dual degree program in computer science based on the Ulm model at the Ulm University of Applied Sciences begins every year on September 1. The dual degree program in computer science lasts a total of 4.5 semesters and combines university studies with vocational training.
For the first half-year, you’ll be at the company, where you’ll begin your vocational training. This is followed by a two-semester foundational program. Afterward, you’ll spend a year at the company, complete your vocational training, and gain valuable practical experience.
As the program progresses, theoretical and practical phases alternate. You’ll collaborate on projects in specialized departments and write your bachelor’s thesis at your partner company during your final semester. After a total of 9 semesters, you’ll graduate with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree and a recognized vocational certification, such as that of an IT specialist.
Computer Science - Advanced Practice
The degree program in computer science with an in-depth practical component begins in the summer and winter semesters and lasts 7 semesters. If you have already signed your contract before the start of the program, you’ll first get to know your company during a brief orientation phase lasting two to four weeks. Afterward, your studies begin directly at the university with the first lectures.
As the program progresses, theoretical and practical phases alternate: During lecture and exam periods, you’ll study at THU; during breaks from classes, you’ll gain valuable practical experience at the company. During your studies, you’ll receive a thorough education in core subjects in computer science and mathematics, as well as supplementary courses in economics and social sciences. A defining feature of the computer science program is the range of electives that allow you to tailor your studies to your personal interests. You’ll complete your internship semester and your bachelor’s thesis directly at your partner company.
