When you start your studies, you often have lots of questions: Where do I need to go? Who is responsible for what? And what do I absolutely need to know? The following information is here to help you get off to a smooth start with your studies. For all technical issues relating to your university account, your email, Wi-Fi or the THU Card, the THU’s Information and Media Centre (IMZ) is here to help.

The Most Important Points at a Glance

   
E-Mail Every student at Ulm University of Applied Sciences receives their own university mailbox. In order not to miss any important information, you should check your mailbox regularly. Automatic forwarding to a private address is not permitted. You can access your mailbox under Outlook Web Access with your user name and password.
WLAN - eduroam Ulm University of Applied Sciences participates in the eduroam project. THU uses the secure and simple easyroam provided by DFN for access to eduroam. You will need your THU network access data to set it up. Detailed information and instructions for setting up eduroam via easyroam can be found here.
University account The services of the Information and Media Center (IMZ) can be used by all members and affiliates of Ulm University of Applied Sciences. Every student at Ulm University of Applied Sciences receives their own access authorization (university account) and a university mailbox. The account is used for authentication in order to use IT services on campus or from outside.

THU-Card / Student ID card

Your student ID card will be with you from your first day to your last at THU. The THU-Card is designed to make your daily life as a student easier: it serves as your student ID, library card, and Student Services payment card all in one. You will receive your THU-Card and your university account by mail the week before the orientation course.

If you want to access internal services from outside the university, use the Cisco Secure Client. This creates a secure data tunnel through the university's firewall. The "virtual private network" (VPN) is used to connect participants in a private network to another private network.

Installation

  1. Download the Cisco Secure Client from the following link: https://vpn.thu.de.

  2. Log in with your university access data (user name without "@thu.de").

  3. You need administrator rights for the installation.
  4. Some help texts are available online.
  5. If the connection is not established automatically, please enter the following server before clicking on "Connect": vpn.thu.de.

In case of problems

  • Do you have administrator rights on your device?
  • An installed firewall, virus scanner or security tool can block the connection
  • Windows: The services "Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)" & "Routing and RAS" must not be active.
  • Make sure that cookies are allowed for vpn.thu.de.
  • Add vpn.thu.de to the trusted websites if necessary.

iOS & Android

  • Install the Cisco Secure Client via the App Store or Google Play Store
  • Enter the server for the connection: vpn.thu.de

E-learning is intended to provide everyone with the possibilities of modern communication media in order to make teaching and learning at the university as effective and efficient as possible. In e-learning you will find all the courses in your degree program as well as other features such as evaluations and the like. You can obtain all the information you need from the Institute for University Didactics (IHD).

Ulm University of Applied Sciences participates in the eduroam project. With eduroam (education roaming), you can use free Wi-Fi not only on campus, but also at many universities worldwide - without the need for a separate guest account. All you need to use it is your THU account.

Access is via the easyroam system provided by DFN, which enables secure and uncomplicated setup. You will need your THU network access data to set it up.
