Guidelines

Our guidelines provide a binding framework for responsible, forward-looking and quality-oriented conduct. They offer guidance for strategic decisions, promote equal opportunities and support good scientific practice.

We operate the Ulm University of Technology (THU) with the vision “We rethink solutions.” The THU makes a significant contribution to finding new solutions to a wide variety of future challenges by conducting technology-oriented, innovative research, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, offering practice-oriented study programs and educational opportunities, and driving technology transfer to industry, the economy, and society.

Structure and Development Plan

With the launch of Horizon Europe, the European Commission made Gender Equality Plans (GEPs) a prerequisite for participation in its research framework program. It defined GEPs as a set of commitments and measures aimed at promoting gender equality within an organization through a process of structural change. This policy instrument aims to bring about sustainable change in organizational processes, cultures, and structures in the field of research and innovation (R&I) to combat and reduce gender-based imbalances and inequalities.

THU has also adopted a Gender Equality Plan, which can be used in particular for submitting applications to European funding programs.

The goal of the current research is to develop a hybrid thermal storage system that, by utilizing latent and sensible heat, offers greater storage capacity per unit volume and minimizes exergetic losses in the storage system through thermal stratification. To this end,

  • CFD is used to investigate the phase transition from solid to liquid in macro-capsules
  • Transport processes in the storage system during charging and discharging are investigated
  • A hybrid storage concept is developed and validated through simulation and experimentation
Compliance with the principles of good scientific practice

The foundation of scientific work is adherence to the principles of good scientific practice. To this end, the University of Ulm has adopted its own regulations for ensuring good scientific practice and addressing scientific misconduct, which are based on the DFG Code.

The ombudspersons for the THU, who should be contacted in cases of suspected violations of good scientific practice, are
Prof. Dr. Marc-Oliver Otto
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Markus Hahn

Pursuant to § 20 of these statutes, a commission for the investigation of cases of scientific misconduct was established at the THU. The commission consists of five professors who are appointed by the Rector upon the recommendation of the Senate for a term of three years.

The commission currently consists of:
Prof. Dr. Christian Schlegel
Prof. Dr. Lisa Ollinger
Prof. Dr. Martin Heßling
and the alternates
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christina Schmitt
Prof. Dr. Michael Munz
additional alternate to be determined
