Innovation Through Collaboration

The goal is to effectively support the innovative capacity of the participating companies through in-depth technical training and applied research.

New member companies can join the Hydraulics Competence Center at the University of Tübingen (KHU). Currently, the KHU brings together the hydraulic expertise of 20 companies, primarily from southern Germany. The competitiveness of these companies depends heavily on qualified young engineers with in-depth knowledge of hydraulics. The Ulm Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK Ulm) further supported the initiative by funding an endowed professorship.

Equipment

Personnel

The Hydraulics Competence Center at THU is headed by Prof. Dr. Mathias Niebergall. Prof. Dr. Walter Commerell, Prof. Dr. Peter Renze and Prof. Dr. Max Sommer from the regular faculty of the THU are involved. The Competence Center Hydraulics is reinforced by academic/scientific staff and supported by engineers and technicians from the laboratories.

Module content, dates, venues
The current content of the courses with lecture dates and venues can be found at the following link: Dates
Depending on demand, the courses are also available as live online lectures via the internet, regardless of location.

Enrolled students (internal university participants)
The hydraulics training is initially aimed at enrolled THU students who, depending on the study and examination regulations of the respective faculty, can have courses credited as specialization modules, elective modules and/or as an additional qualification.

Working participants (external participants)
Our continuing education course to become a 'Certified Hydraulics Engineer' at THU is also aimed at working participants who have already successfully completed an engineering degree. Technicians and master craftsmen in technical training courses have the opportunity to take the first three modules and receive the 'Certified Hydraulics Specialist' certificate from Ulm University of Applied Sciences.

Admission requirements

  • Certified specialist engineer (modules 1 - 5):
A successfully completed engineering degree as a Diplom-Ingenieur, Bachelor/Master of Science or Bachelor/Master of Engineering.
  • Hydraulics study certificate (modules 1 - 5):
University entrance qualification (general higher education entrance qualification, subject-specific higher education entrance qualification or comparable qualification)
  • Certified hydraulics specialist (modules 1, -2 + a further hydraulics module of your choice):
Master craftsman, technician, business administrator or comparable qualification

Start of studies
At the beginning of each university semester (in March or October)

Registration of external participants
Registration of external participants for further hydraulics training takes place as part of the School of Advanced Professional Studies (SAPS): Registration for further hydraulics training.

Applying for a university internet account (external participants)
Access to the university internet platform requires user identification. For this purpose, a user identification with an application form and ID card must be carried out once in person at the Information and Media Center (IMZ), where you will receive the user regulations. Please contact Ms. Margit Dobisch (margit.dobisch@thu.de) in the F-Bau (right wing) room F41.

Certificates
Enrolled students and external participants can apply for certificates from the School of Advanced Professional Studies (SAPS) using a short form. Please contact Ms. Kirsten Huss (kirsten.huss@thu.de) for this purpose.

Certificate application for enrolled students
Certificate application for external participants

If the certificate application is submitted by the end of January, the certificate will be presented at the beginning of March at the following advisory board meeting of the Competence Center Hydraulics, in the presence of the representatives of our foundation companies. Alternatively, the certificate can also be sent by post.

An additional qualification for enrolled students represents an additional achievement to the prescribed courses of a degree program. As part of the hydraulics training at THU, the additional qualifications 'Certified Hydraulics Specialist' (modules 1 - 5) and 'Certified Hydraulics Specialist' (modules 1, -2 + a further hydraulics module of your choice) can be taken.

Additional qualification 'Certified Hydraulics Specialist'
Of the five training modules leading to the Certified Hydraulics Specialist qualification, a maximum of two courses approved for the degree program may be credited both for the Bachelor's program and for the additional qualification. This means that at least three training modules must be completed in addition to the regular course of study for the additional qualification 'Certified Hydraulics Specialist'.

Additional qualification 'Certified Hydraulics Specialist'
Of the three modules leading to the certified hydraulics specialist, only one module of the courses approved for the degree program may be credited both for the Bachelor's program and for the additional qualification. This means that at least two training modules must be completed in addition to the regular course of study for the additional qualification 'Certified Hydraulics Specialist'.

Planning the hydraulics modules into the degree course
The five modules of the additional hydraulics qualification can be taken freely during the individual course of study. In principle, training modules for an additional qualification can also be completed during the practical semester, but only on condition that they are not included in the Bachelor's certificate.

Technical Forum Hydraulics

The Hydraulics Expert Forum at THU offers an attractive framework for constructive exchange and a platform for professional networking. It is aimed at managers and developers who are involved in hydraulic drive and control technology projects and want to discuss specialist topics or simply take the opportunity to be inspired.

The content of the forum ranges from pumps, hydraulic motors and cylinders to valve technology, the connecting pressure fluid including sealing technology, hydromechanical and electrohydraulic drive systems and their stationary or mobile applications. The Hydraulics Expert Forum will cover both practical and scientific topics and exchange knowledge and experience of hydraulic drive and control technology. The format of the event is deliberately kept flexible. In addition to classic presentations with discussion, a small marketplace with exhibits will facilitate access to the content of the hydraulic topics. Sufficient space and a pleasant atmosphere will be provided.
