Course Organisation & Forms

Here you’ll find important information about the structure of your degree programme. If you’re familiar with the key framework conditions, you’ll be at a distinct advantage and will be able to organise your studies effectively from the outset and approach them with confidence.

And don’t forget: always keep an eye on your university email account – that way, you won’t miss any important notifications, letters or information about your studies!

Information for your studies at THU

SELMA student portal

The SELMA student portal is very important for organizing and managing your studies. For example, you can access your enrollment certificates there. You can also use the student portal to apply for re-enrollment for the next semester, a leave of absence, or withdrawal from the university. Registration for courses and exams is also done through the student portal.

Important: The portal is only accessible via the university network. If you want to access it from outside the campus, you’ll need a VPN connection. You can find help on setting up a VPN connection here.

As a registered student, you can find more information and a guide to the Student Portal on the THU intranet.

Study certificates

You can easily download and print your academic transcripts in German or English from the SELMA student portal. There you'll find both enrollment certificates and your academic record—for example, for BAföG or the family benefits office.

Registration for events and examinations

You must register for all courses (including required courses!) and exams yourself via the SELMA student portal. You can find more information and instructions on how to do this in the SELMA Moodle course.

Re-registration for the next semester

If you’d like to continue your studies at THU next semester, you must re-enroll by the deadline. You can do this through the SELMA student portal by submitting the re-enrollment application and then paying the semester fees and, if applicable, tuition fees .

All students will receive an email containing all relevant information about re-enrollment in a timely manner at the start of the re-enrollment period. That’s why it’s important to check your THU email account regularly so you don’t miss anything.

Statutes & regulations

The Study and Examination Regulations (SPO) govern the structure of your degree program and all important examination requirements. It’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with them early on. You can find all relevant bylaws and regulations online, and as a registered student, you can also find additional information on the intranet.

Illness on the day of the exam

If you are sick and unable to take an exam, contact your faculty office immediately and provide proof that you are unable to take the exam in accordance with your study and examination regulations.

Studying part-time on an individual basis

Certain life circumstances can be very time-consuming. In such cases, it can be helpful to spread out your studies over a longer period of time. This allows you to study on an individualized part-time basis.

“Individual part-time study” does not mean that there is a specific part-time degree program, but rather that we’ll work with you on a case-by-case basis to determine how you can organize your studies on a part-time basis. You can find more information on this in the FAQs about individual part-time study.
