Student Union

The Student Union (VS) at Ulm University of Technology represents the interests of all students on the university’s governing bodies and works to improve everyday student life. It also acts as a point of contact for questions and issues relating to your studies and mediates between students and the university.

As an enrolled student, you are automatically a member of the VS and can get actively involved. For example, by taking part in university elections, standing for office or attending Student Council meetings. In addition, the VS is committed to social, financial and cultural issues and organises numerous activities and events for students.

The student body organizes numerous events throughout the year - from semester opening parties and orientation week to summer festivals and events such as the mulled wine sale.

Excursions

During the excursion week, you can visit companies, universities and exciting places in Germany and abroad. The VS supports many excursions financially and organizationally.

Sport

You benefit from the university sports program at Ulm University at reduced rates. In addition, the VS provides teams for events such as the Einstein Marathon and organizes ski trips, for example.

Music

The university choir and orchestra provide a musical balance - these activities are also supported by the VS.

Student projects

The VS supports student initiatives such as the Form Student Team Einstein Motorsport and helps you to implement your own projects.

Organs of the VS

The constituted student body is a sub-corporation under public law and is firmly integrated into the university's committee structure. At the same time, it has its own committees and organizes itself independently.

The Senate is the university's most important body. Students, staff, professors and the Rectorate decide together on matters relating to studies, teaching and the university. The interests of the students are represented by six elected student senate members. Decisions are made, for example, on admission numbers at THU, examination regulations and appointment matters

Each of the six faculties (E, G, I, M, P, T) at Ulm University of Applied Sciences has its own faculty council. The respective dean's office, professors, employees and six elected student members decide on matters relating to the respective faculty.

The student members advise on the direction of the faculty and act as a neutral mouthpiece between students and professors, enabling them to bring students' problems directly and anonymously to the lecturers. Students can also participate in study and appointment committees.

The Student Council (StuRa) is an internal body of the VS. It decides on fundamental matters of the student body and is the legislative body of the VS. The four directly elected members and the six student senators are entitled to vote. The faculty council spokespersons and their respective deputies are also advisory members.

StuRa meetings are generally open to the university public. This means that you, as a registered student, are cordially invited to attend. Here you can make requests and suggestions, for example for new events and the like.

The AStA is the executive body of the VS Ulm and manages the day-to-day business of the student body. It is made up of the chair, two deputies and the finance department and is elected by the StuRa.

Its tasks include the administration of the fixed budget in the budget and, within this framework, the procurement processes and projects with the corresponding budget items. The AStA implements the resolutions of the StuRa and represents the VS Ulm in regional, state and national organizations and internal and external university committees. It plans and implements projects and supports the project managers. The Finance Department manages the accounts, payments, invoices and financial flows of the student representatives. It coordinates with the THU budget officers and processes applications for excursion funding and expense allowances.

The AStA Chair represents the AStA and the VS Ulm internally and externally. It is responsible for communication and cooperation with ministries, authorities and other universities. It determines the responsibilities for decisions and manages the central administration of the VS Ulm.

Financing of the VS

The constituted student body is financed by a portion of your semester fee. The Student Council (StRa) decides on the use of these funds as part of its duties. The VS also has a say in the use of quality assurance funds from the state to improve teaching.
