Important to-do's around your move

  • Broadcasting fee: You also have to pay the broadcasting fee as a student. You can easily register or re-register online. If you receive BAföG, you can be exempted from this.
  • Dealing with the authorities: Register at the residents' registration office within one week. You will need, among other things: Identity card or passport, certificate of enrollment, proof of health insurance, rental contract, proof of financing if applicable (if you have a car, you must also re-register it)
  • Health insurance: Health insurance is compulsory in Germany. You will need an insurance certificate for your enrollment at THU. It is best to clarify in advance whether you are still covered by family insurance.
  • Tenancy agreement: As soon as you have found an apartment or room, you will sign a legally binding tenancy agreement. A sample tenancy agreement (e.g. from the German Tenants' Association) can give you additional security.
  • Redirection request: Submit a redirection request to Deutsche Post AG. Your mail will then be automatically forwarded to your new address.

You can easily reach THU by bus and streetcar. As a student, you can use the discounted D-Ticket Jugend BW to travel on public transport throughout Germany. Prerequisite: You must be under 28 and study or live in Baden-Württemberg. The ticket is only available as an annual subscription.

You can obtain information and tickets from Stadtwerke Ulm/Neu-Ulm (SWU) and DING. Important: You may not use public transport without a valid ticket.
