Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) - In depth practical training, The Ulm Model

Work-study programme in Mechanical Engineering

The dual degree programme in Mechanical Engineering at Ulm University of Applied Sciences (THU) combines engineering knowledge with practical experience in a company. If you want not only to understand machines and technical systems but also to play an active role in their development, this programme offers you the opportunity to combine theory and practice right from the start.

During the practical phases, you will work directly within the company, assisting with design, monitoring manufacturing processes or carrying out tests and measurements. You will also contribute to the optimisation of components, machines and technical systems, applying your knowledge from fields such as mechanical engineering, materials science and thermodynamics directly in practice.

The Mechanical Engineering programme can be completed as a dual study programme based on the Ulm model or with an in-depth practical component. The Ulm model also offers you recognised vocational training, for example as an industrial mechanic, mechatronics technician or materials tester.

Mechanical engineering - in-depth practice

You can start the degree course with in-depth practical experience in mechanical engineering in the winter or summer semester. If you have already signed your contract before the start of your studies, you will first get to know your company in a short introductory phase of two to four weeks. Your studies will then begin directly at the university with the first lectures.

You will then alternate between theoretical and practical phases: You will study at THU during the lecture and examination periods and gain valuable practical experience at the company during the lecture-free periods. You will also complete your practical semester and your Bachelor's thesis directly at your partner company.
