Student Council

The Student Council (StuRa) is the centrepiece of the Student Union (VS) at Ulm University of Technology (THU). As a body under public law, it is the official representative body for all enrolled students and deals with matters relating to university policy, social, economic and cultural issues.

Core Responsibilities and Services

The work of the Student Council goes far beyond politics alone and significantly shapes everyday student life at the THU. The areas can be broadly summarized as follows:

  • University Policy & Committee Work: The StuRa actively participates in university committees. This involves issues such as equal opportunity, anti-discrimination, teaching evaluation, and the general development of the THU.
  • Event Organization: The VS hosts parties (such as the Semester Opening), organizes orientation week for first-year students, summer festivals, and the traditional mulled wine sale on campus.
  • Project Funding: Committed students who want to bring their own ideas to life receive financial and organizational support here. A well-known, funded project is, for example, the THU’s Einstein Motorsport (Formula Student) Team.
  • Sports & Culture: The VS works closely with the University of Ulm’s university sports program, allowing THU students to train there at a discounted rate. It also organizes annual ski trips, fields teams for the Einstein Marathon, and supports cultural groups such as the university choir and orchestra (e.g., by helping to purchase new sheet music or instruments).

Locations and Accessibility

The Student Union also serves as a direct point of contact for issues related to academic studies. It has its own offices at both of the THU’s main campuses:

  • Prittwitzstraße Campus: Room C005
  • Oberer Eselsberg Campus: Room S207

You can reach the team by email at vs@thu.de or by phone/Messenger at +49 1573 2227107.

Good to know: The Student Union primarily shares all up-to-date information, funding guidelines for field trips, and announcements via its official Moodle course and on Instagram at @vs_thu. Since every enrolled student is automatically a member, you can attend the (mostly open to the entire university) Student Council meetings at any time or even run for office yourself.
