Department of Secure Systems

Information security deals with principles and measures to protect information systems and the data processed on them from unauthorized access and manipulation. The spectrum ranges from network security and application security to compliance with laws and contracts in information technology.

Data protection complements this specialist area with the legally compliant handling of personal data. The aim of data protection is to guarantee the personal rights of the people concerned when processing information. This includes, in particular, the rights to informational self-determination (1983) and digital privacy (2008) postulated by the German Federal Constitutional Court and the right to data protection in the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.
