Procedure

Medical Informatics - Advanced Practice

The dual degree program with an in-depth practical component in Medical Informatics begins in the winter or summer semester and lasts seven semesters. If you have already signed your contract before the start of the program, you’ll first get to know your company during a short orientation phase lasting two to four weeks. Afterward, your studies will begin directly at the university with the first lectures.

As the program progresses, theoretical and practical phases alternate: During lecture and exam periods, you’ll study at THU; during breaks from classes, you’ll gain valuable practical experience at the company. You’ll receive a comprehensive education in computer science, during which you’ll be introduced from the ground up to programming languages, data management, algorithms, computer networks, and more—always with a focus on the requirements of the medical field. Modern technologies such as machine learning and artificial intelligence are just as much a part of the program as the specific requirements for software development, data protection, and data security when handling patient data. The program is complemented by cross-disciplinary skills such as technical English, project management, scientific research methods, and seminar papers, which strengthen your abilities in communication, organization, and methodology. You’ll complete your internship semester and your bachelor’s thesis directly at your partner company.
