Library services

Are you missing books, eBooks or other media in our library that you need for your studies, teaching or research? We look forward to receiving your acquisition suggestions, which you can send to bibliothek(at)thu.de.
You can find out about our new acquisitions in the library catalog under the menu item "New acquisitions and lists".

The loan period for books is usually four weeks, for periodicals, data carriers and items from the "Library of Things" two weeks.
It can be extended several times if there are no reservations.
Weekend loans are usually possible for reference books.

eBooks and eJournals licensed by the University Library are accessible via our library catalog.
The online media licensed by the library (eBooks, eJournals, literature databases, standards) are available to you free of charge on the campus network if you have logged in with your university account.
External users can only use our online media on the PCs in the library.
University members can also use these online media from home:

  • Install the VPN client or
  • log in via Shibboleth/Institutional-Log-In (instructions can be found here).

Registered library users can request books, data carriers and copies of articles via interlibrary loan from other German libraries via the library catalog ("Interlibrary loan" search area). The fee is 1.50 EUR per order.

In addition, document delivery services are available for a fee.

Learning videos can be found on the LinkedIn Learning platform. To access the extended offer, please register once on LinkedIn with your university e-mail address, which can also be anonymized. Please click on the language selection icon in the top right-hand corner to view videos in a foreign language. All videos on technology, IT, business and creativity can also be found in the library catalog.

The reference management program Citavi supports you in all steps of working with academic literature. You have these options for using Citavi:

  1. You can install Citavi on your university computer via the DSM Software Shop
  2. In the cloud with Citavi Web
  3. You can also use Citavi on your private computer or a USB stick:
    If you install Citavi, you can work with Citavi on your computer using the free license key that you request via the Citavi campus license. Your internal email address serves as authentication. You can use it to create a Citavi account and get the right to save Citavi on up to two of your own computers.

Use of the software is at the instigation and responsibility of the user and is subject to the conditions specified by the software provider.

OPARU, the open access repository of Ulm University and Ulm University of Applied Sciences, is available on the OPARU page.
Members of Ulm University of Applied Sciences can use OPARU for their own publications and secondary publications. Information on publishing on OPARU can be found further down on this page.
Students can publish their theses on OPARU. Theses published before 2021 can be found as proof of publication on OPARU and in the catalog of the German National Library.

Members of THU have the opportunity to publish in scientific journals within the framework of existing Publish & Read contracts. You can find more detailed information here.
