Business Informatics - Ulm Model
The dual degree program in Business Informatics based on the Ulm Model at the Ulm University of Applied Sciences begins every year on September 1 and lasts a total of 4.5 years (9 semesters). It combines business administration and computer science and provides an interdisciplinary education.
During the first half-year, you’ll be at the company, beginning your vocational training—for example, to become an IT specialist. This is followed by a two-semester foundational program. You’ll then spend a year at the company, complete your vocational training, and gain valuable practical experience.
As the program progresses, theoretical and practical phases alternate. You’ll collaborate on projects in specialized departments and write your bachelor’s thesis at the company during your final semester.
Curriculum for the Bachelor’s in Business Informatics under the Ulm Model
Business Informatics - Advanced Practice
The dual degree program with an in-depth practical component in Business Informatics begins in the winter or summer semester and lasts seven semesters. If you’ve already signed your contract before the start of the program, you’ll first get to know your company during a short orientation phase lasting two to four weeks. Afterward, your studies begin directly at the university with the first lectures.
As the program progresses, theoretical and practical phases alternate: During lecture and exam periods, you’ll study at THU; during breaks from classes, you’ll gain valuable practical experience at the company. The introductory phase provides you with foundational knowledge in subjects such as mathematics, programming, business administration, accounting, economics, and the fundamentals of business informatics. In the advanced phase, you will delve deeper into specific topics within business informatics. By choosing a specialization and taking elective modules, you can actively shape your study plan and, in addition to the required modules, select courses that align with your personal interests. You’ll complete your internship semester and your bachelor’s thesis directly at your partner company.
