Can't decide whether to pursue a degree or vocational training? Then why not do both?
The Ulm Model combines a university degree with vocational training in one program: In just 4.5 years, you’ll earn both a bachelor’s degree and a vocational certificate.
During your vocational training, you’ll be mentored by experienced trainers at the company and will later work on real-world engineering projects. During the university phases, you’ll study just as you would in a traditional bachelor’s program. In addition, vocational school classes are typically held in blocks during the first few semesters. After a total of 9 semesters, you’ll complete your studies with a bachelor’s thesis.
In a dual degree program, you’ll earn two degrees within 4.5 years. Throughout your studies, you’ll receive a salary, allowing you to be financially independent even while you’re still in school. Through your practical work at the company, you’ll gain professional experience early on and increase your chances of being hired full-time after graduation. During your practical training phases, you’re also entitled to vacation time. At the same time, you can build a network with other dual-track students, share experiences, and make valuable contacts for your professional career.
In the Ulm Model, the apprenticeship program is generally determined by the partner company. It is based both on the chosen degree program and on the apprenticeship programs offered by the company. This ensures that the academic program and practical training are optimally aligned.

The dual study program based on the Ulm Model at Ulm University of Applied Sciences begins every year on September 1.
You’ll spend the first half-year at the company, where you’ll begin your vocational training. This is followed by a two-semester foundational program. Afterward, you’ll spend a year at the company, complete your vocational training, and gain valuable hands-on experience.
As the program progresses, theoretical and practical phases alternate: During lecture and exam periods, you’ll be at the University of Applied Sciences (THU), and during breaks from classes, you’ll be at the company. You’ll collaborate on projects in specialized departments and write your bachelor’s thesis at the company during your final semester.

After signing the contract with the company, submit your application through the THU application portal with all required documents (including your employment contract, transcript, and resume).
