MIKE stands for "Greater Inclusion through Smart AI on End Devices". It is a project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) that develops user-friendly and effective edge AI systems. These systems are specifically tailored to the needs of people with disabilities in order to promote inclusion in everyday life and, in particular, in the workplace. The project will run for 18 months and is being carried out by the Institute of Communication Technology (Prof. Dr Hahn) at Ulm University of Applied Sciences.
Why MIKE?
For many people with disabilities, access to the primary labor market remains a challenge and inclusion is often limited. The aim of MIKE is to use innovative technologies to break down barriers and create new opportunities. Edge AI - artificial intelligence that works decentrally on end devices such as smartphones, smart glasses or other intelligent companions - lays the foundation for direct, safe and energy-efficient interaction.
Project focus
Development of edge AI systems for specific requirements of people with disabilities. Promoting autonomy and participation in the primary labor market.
Cooperation with Lebenshilfe Donau-Iller e.V., an experienced partner in supporting people with disabilities.
Application examples
Orientation aid: "I can guide you to the meeting room."
Everyday support: "The whole milk has expired, it needs to be sorted out."
