Would you like to gain international experience, but don’t have time to spend a whole semester abroad, or would you like to find out first whether a longer stay abroad is right for you?
Then short-term opportunities such as Erasmus+ BIPs, summer schools or excursions are just the thing for you. They allow you to make international contacts, discover new cultures and broaden your academic horizons – all in a compact and flexible format that fits seamlessly into your daily study routine. With short-term mobility programmes, you can enrich your studies with an international dimension whilst acquiring valuable skills for your future.
Blended Intensive Programs (BIPs) are short, international teaching formats within the framework of Erasmus+ in which you participate together with international students from other universities. They combine a virtual learning phase with a short, intensive stay abroad. During the BIP, you usually work in interdisciplinary and international teams on specific, often practice-oriented topics or projects. The on-campus phase takes place at a partner university abroad and usually lasts around one week. In addition, you will work together with other participants in digital learning formats before or after the face-to-face phase. As part of a BIP, you can usually earn 3 ECTS credits, some of which can also be credited to your degree course following an assessment by your degree program.
A BIP offers you the perfect opportunity to integrate international experience flexibly and compactly into your studies:
Participants with fewer opportunities can receive additional financial support (social top-up).
For stays of 1 to 14 days you will receive a one-off grant of €100, for stays of 15 to 30 days €150 (as of May 2026).
You can apply for the grants as part of the Erasmus+ scholarship process.
You can find more information and the funding requirements for the top-ups here:

Summer schools are compact programs at our partner universities abroad, usually lasting several days or weeks, which you can take part in during the semester break. You attend international courses, work on exciting topics and get to know students from all over the world. In addition to academic input, the program often includes cultural activities and excursions so that you can broaden your international experience without having to spend an entire semester abroad.
You will usually receive the announcements for summer schools from our partner universities via your THU e-mail. You can also find out about current offers yourself on the websites of our partner universities. Summer schools are usually self-organized short-term stays for which no financial support is usually provided by THU. The ECTS points that you earn during a summer school can also be credited to your studies after examination and approval by your degree program. We will inform you about application modalities and general conditions of the respective programs in our announcements.
