The “Technologies and Trends in Digitalization and Connectivity” module specifically prepares students for the challenges and opportunities of digital transformation. It focuses on topics such as digital twins and simulation, data management, networked systems, and Internet technologies. Students acquire in-depth knowledge of programming, data analysis, and process automation. In addition to theoretical content, there is a special emphasis on practical application examples in the fields of smart energy and smart production.

Nowadays, the use of computers, simulations, and mathematical and statistical models is a common method for investigating and analyzing various processes in the natural sciences, engineering, and even the humanities. Computer simulations serve as a supplement to—and sometimes even a substitute for—experiments and theory. Computers and mathematical-statistical models are used to describe reality and to develop new products that can be more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. Models and simulations are also used to explore the future, such as future energy systems. This requires a foundation in applied numerical mathematics and high-performance computing, which is provided in this course.
