Laboratory teaching is one of the core elements of engineering degree programmes at universities of applied sciences. Digital tools have so far been used to support the organisational management as well as the preparation and follow-up of laboratory experiments. The DiLa project aims to take digital laboratory teaching to a new level by enabling students to access physical laboratory facilities remotely outside scheduled face-to-face sessions and by making laboratory experiments available as educational simulation models. This allows students to repeat laboratory experiments multiple times, carry out more extensive experiments and learn through experimentation even when they are not physically present in the laboratory. Furthermore, new opportunities for teaching collaborations are opened up.
The DiLa project aims to design, implement and evaluate, through pilot applications, a modular, virtual infrastructure for the digital support and execution of laboratory experiments. The infrastructure is intended to be usable across all faculties and degree programmes and to remain open to future expansion and the integration of additional laboratory experiments.
