THU professor Verena Cerna breaks the world record for the 50-kilometre race
An extraordinary achievement: Verena Cerna, a physics lecturer at Ulm University of Applied Sciences (THU), broke two records in the ‘Breaking 50’ record attempt organised especially for her.
In an impressive time of 3 hours 14 minutes 35 seconds, the Ulm-based runner completed the 50-kilometre distance, setting a new best time for the W45 age group. At the same time, she broke the previous German women’s record for this distance. Official recognition of the records is still pending.
With this success, Verena Cerna adds yet another highlight to her already impressive running career. As recently as March this year, she won the world title in her age group at the 50-kilometre World Championships in New Delhi. In the overall women’s rankings, she achieved an outstanding eighth place.
She also brings her enthusiasm for running to the THU: in preparation for the Ulm Einstein Marathon, she organises a regular running group during the summer term, motivating students, staff and lecturers at the THU to pursue sporting goals together. In addition to the group runs, she provides guidance on running technique and training.
Whether on the international running circuit or during group training sessions at the university, Verena Cerna impressively demonstrates what is possible with passion, perseverance and commitment.
The THU warmly congratulates Verena Cerna on her exceptional sporting achievement!
